Band saw (Practical Advice)

General recommendations

1) Follow the recommendations carefully: "DO" and "AVOID".
2) Use the recommended speeds. Reduce by 50% for carbon ribbons.
DO for a new ribbon: start cutting at the recommended speed with reduced feed rates to 50% for the first 60 square inches.
AVOID Start a new ribbon in an existing cut. The narrow path of the previous used ribbon can cause a tooth pull or break the ribbon. Avoid starting a cut on the corner of a room.
DO tensioning the tape to the required voltage.
AVOID Excessive pressure could cause breakage of the tape. A lack of an eighth power cut or damage the tape.
DO Examine chip formation. A chip end as a hair indicates a lack of advance. A blue and very thick chip indicates excessive advance.
AVOID Increase speed and feed rate without examining the shape and color of the chips.
DO use a quality lubricant. Lubricated, cooled and cleaned, the tape will have a much longer life.
AVOID Use a lubricant for cutting cast iron, Bronze hard and D2.
DO Tighten the vise.
AVOID Moving the piece could cause breakage of the tape or the destruction of teeth.
DO Approach as close as possible for maximum tape guides of the support
AVOID Keep away Guides would cause heavy distortion and tape may damage it.
DO Tighten guide plates without pinching.
AVOID Forgetting to adjust the clamping plates can lead to damage and breakage of the tape.
DO Although align the position of the tape on the wheels.
AVOID The teeth of the tape embark on flying. The tooth contact on the wheels cause a loss swaging.
DO Ensure clamping plates do not touch the blade setting.
AVOID The guide plates that affect the swaging teeth destroy the tape.

Ribbon cutting issues and possible remedies
PREMATURE WEAR:
·        Decrease speed.
·        Use a finer tooth.
·        Use a lubricant suitable for the material being cut.
·        Keep teeth in contact with the material to avoid "wax".
·        Do not let the teeth rub the cut; increase pressure if necessary.
·        Sprinkle the cut point excess if necessary to mild steels, extra soft and non-ferrous.
·        Make sure that the teeth are pointing in the right direction.
VIBRATION RIBBON CUT:
·        Increase or decrease the speed of the tape depending on the material to be cut and its thickness.
·        Increase the tension of the tape.
·        Use a finer pitch.
·        Increase pressure.
·        Hold the workpiece firmly.
PULLING TEETH:
·        Use an end not for thinner gauges.
·        Eliminate vibration by firmly holding the workpiece.
·        Check voltage (slip tape.)
·        Use a watering adapted in soft materials.
·        If we reached the jam, use a thicker spray lubricant.
·        Reduce pressure or advance.
·        Increasing the tooth pitch according to the size of the room.
BAD AREA STATE:
·        Increase cutting speed.
·        Use a finer pitch.
·        Reduce pressure or advance.
·        Use a cooling liquid.
BREACH OF PREMATURE TAPE:
·        Excessive ribbon thickness for steering and speed of the machine.
·        Reduce speed.
·        Look for possible defects on the outskirts of flying.
·        Decrease pressure.
·        Decrease the ribbon tension.
·        Adjust the guides.
·        Use a cooling liquid.
FACES OR OBTAINED CURVED HOLLOW:
·        Increase the tension of the tape.
·        Adapt the spacing of the guides to the width of the workpiece.
·        Use no more.
·        Reduce feed.
JAM:
·        Use no more.
·        Water.
·        Decrease pressure or advance.
·        Increase the speed.
BAD CONTACT WITH TAPE GUIDES (OR ROLLER) REAR (VERTICAL):
·        The ribbon jogs to the guide (or wheel) Rear: remove possible burrs on the back of tape welding.
·        The tape is not still in contact with the rear guide: reweld well in aligning the back of the tape ends.
·        Check the alignment of flying (especially in the case of more than two flying).
·        Check that the rear wheel is not worn or distorted.
HUNTING THE RIBBON:
·        Unsymmetrical path or damaged on one side by a hard point.
·        Guides incorrectly adjusted: adjust again. If worn: replace.
·        In the case of a tape of the cleaning equipment (brushes) verify the setting.
·        The change if appropriate.
·        Pressure or excessive advance: reduce.
Twelve tips
1.      Check the coolant level daily.
Drain the coolant every two months.
Clean the tank regularly and mainly before adding a new coolant.
2.      Lubricate the sawing machine daily.
Check daily leakage reduction box.
3.      Change oil to 10.000 hours of operation or every two years.
Before working on the hydraulic pump:
Bow down to the lowest position.
Set the switch of the hydraulic pump in the stop position.
Check the oil level and add if necessary to the level of the indicator.
4.      Make a drain annually.
Check the hydraulic connections to the four weeks to detect any leak.
5.      Tighten the hydraulic and electrical connections.
Examine the brush tape every ten hours and adjust if required.
Make sure the bristles of the brush touch the bottom 2/3 of throat teeth, ensure its effectiveness.
6.      Do not hesitate to change the brushes.
Clean the guides after each ribbon change.
7.      Check that the guides are cluttered with dirt especially if you use a spray system (type UNIST).
8.      Make sure to clean the wheel housings on each ribbon change.
Remove chips from the machine regularly, thoroughly clean the machine every 100 hours of operation. Remember the cutting fluid tank.
9.      Change the backup battery in your PLC every five years to prevent loss of data.
10. The switch must be in the on position when changing the battery.
11. Use a quality cutting fluid, it offers a very high protection and good corrosion control and rancidity, it helps to keep the ribbons and work surfaces clean.

12. Please note, it is important to have liquids or other waste in order to comply with local environmental regulations.

Top Simple Tips for Better Resawing with your Band Saw

What is the best way to resaw your band saw effectively and simply? This is never an easy task for all of us. That’s why in this article we will give you some top simple tips to help you to resaw with your band saw effectively. Now, let’s have a look at them.

1. Choose the right blade
As anyone know, not all the blade is the same and the right one for resawing. You should pay attention to the workpiece you perform to take the most suitable one.
A thick stock will cause an enormous amount of waste in each tooth shaves. Therefore, to gain the best efficiency, you should choose the blade with the reasonable size to maintain a reasonably productive feed rate with no trouble.

2. Optimize the performance
One of the simplest way to resaw with your band saw is tension the blade. By this way, we can keep stock centered and prevent the blade from fluttering under thrust.
As the result, you can get the optimal performance.
An adequate blade tensions will help you more than you think even if the control is not perfect.
Especially, it is never easier for you with the current band saw products. You can take advantage of some current best blade type in the market for this purpose.

3. Feed at the right rate
This is a simple way to increase the performance of the band saw. Feeding at the right rate will help you to prevent the blade from dirty and low performance. If you feed too slowly, it’s easy for the blade to wear out. However, if you do too fast, it’s also not good at all. To have smooth surface, it should be performed at a moderate and consistent pace.
 4. Keep your blade clean
Sanity is a problem to anything in the world, and the band saw is not an exception. The debris and crusted material can lower your band saw’s performance. Also, a blade with full of dust can prevent your band saw from working properly and smoothly. The sooner you clean the blade, the easier it will be for you to clean.
 5. Keep your work safely
Keeping safe is one of the most thing you should keep I mind whenever doing with your band saw. You should remember that when turning the hard wood into sawdust, it may cause accident for you. Don’t forget to use a push block to push the stock instead of your hand.

Besides, there are many things that you should pay attention to resaw your band saw effectively including using point lock to guide your cut, adjusting the fence to the lead angle of the blade and many others.

These are 5 top simple things that you should do to resaw your band saw and get the best performance. Sometimes it’s not easy for the novice, but practice makes perfect, just go ahead and you can master it.
