5 Circulation Tips for a Cleaner Pool

In my latest digital guide The Art of Pool Care, I talk a lot about the importance of pool cirulation because it’s often overlooked. Without effective water flow, you’re pool will constantly be dirty and force you to clean it manually. Remember, your filter system is there for a reason: to filter and clean the water. We need to help it out by setting up a good water flow.
Below is some quick action steps you can do RIGHT NOW to get better cirulation in your pool. Think of your pool like a giant cup of coffee. When you stir in your cream and sugar (if you take it that way) you dip the spoon all the way in to the bottom and stir. You do this because the sugar lives on the bottom and you mix in the cream much faster. If you were to only dip the tip of your spoon in, you’d get a lousy stir and a sugar rush on your final sip. best robotic pool cleaner
Here’s how to stir your pool with the whole spoon, so to speak.
  1. Make sure all of your skimmers and main drains are pulling water into the filter system. If you have an above ground pool, you will only have one skimmer. You can test this by putting your hand near the suction port under the skimmer baskets, but not too close. You will have to mess around with your valves to make sure you’re pulling from all ports. Once you figure out how your valves work, LABEL THEM!!!
  2. Angle your return jets to either 7 or 4 o’clock, and make sure all your jets are angled in the same direction to allow your pool water to spin away from your skimmers. Angling them down is like putting your whole spoon in the coffee to stir from the bottom up.
  3. If you have step jets, angle both or one of them towards the top step so it will push dirt off of the steps.
  4. Make sure your pressure gauge is running at normal pressure. To find out your normal pressure, take a look after a fresh backwash and that should be normal. You should also feel your return jets for high water pressure. When (and only when) your pressure gets to about 8 to 10 pounds over the normal, should you backwash or clean your filter.
  5. Check and lube your orings. Your filter system has a few orings that should be in great condition and lubed, but the most important is your pump best pool pump lid oring. Check for cracks by bending it between your fingers, and if it’s cracked, buy a new one. If it’s not, or when you get a new one, use a teflon based oring lube to create a better seal and better water pressure. No air should be getting into your filter system. We’re going to talk about cleaning best automatic pool cleaner in the next email, but I wanted to tell you to brush your pool’s dead spots. Dead spots are areas of your pool that don’t get much circulation. This could be steps or under ladders or the furtherest area away from your jets. Either way, you should brush these areas frequently so dirt, debris, or algae doesn’t build up.

General recommendations

1) Follow the recommendations carefully: "DO" and "AVOID".
2) Use the recommended speeds. Reduce by 50% for carbon ribbons.
DO for a new ribbon: start cutting at the recommended speed with reduced feed rates to 50% for the first 60 square inches.
AVOID Start a new ribbon in an existing cut. The narrow path of the previous used ribbon can cause a tooth pull or break the ribbon. Avoid starting a cut on the corner of a room.
DO tensioning the tape to the required voltage.
AVOID Excessive pressure could cause breakage of the tape. A lack of an eighth power cut or damage the tape.
DO Examine chip formation. A chip end as a hair indicates a lack of advance. A blue and very thick chip indicates excessive advance.
AVOID Increase speed and feed rate without examining the shape and color of the chips.
DO use a quality lubricant. Lubricated, cooled and cleaned, the tape will have a much longer life.
AVOID Use a lubricant for cutting cast iron, Bronze hard and D2.
DO Tighten the vise.
AVOID Moving the piece could cause breakage of the tape or the destruction of teeth.
DO Approach as close as possible for maximum tape guides of the support
AVOID Keep away Guides would cause heavy distortion and tape may damage it.
DO Tighten guide plates without pinching.
AVOID Forgetting to adjust the clamping plates can lead to damage and breakage of the tape.
DO Although align the position of the tape on the wheels.

Ribbon cutting issues and possible remedies
·        Decrease speed.
·        Use a finer tooth.
·        Use a lubricant suitable for the material being cut.
·        Keep teeth in contact with the material to avoid "wax".
·        Do not let the teeth rub the cut; increase pressure if necessary.
·        Sprinkle the cut point excess if necessary to mild steels, extra soft and non-ferrous.
·        Make sure that the teeth are pointing in the right direction.
·        Increase or decrease the speed of the tape depending on the material to be cut and its thickness.

1.      Check the coolant level daily.
Drain the coolant every two months.

Bow down to the lowest position.

Check the hydraulic connections to the four weeks to detect any leak.
5.      Tighten the hydraulic and electrical connections.
Examine the brush tape every ten hours and adjust if required.
Make sure the bristles of the brush touch the bottom 2/3 of throat teeth, ensure its effectiveness.
6.      Do not hesitate to change the brushes.
Clean the guides after each ribbon change.
7.      Check that the guides are cluttered with dirt especially if you use a spray system (type UNIST).
8.      Make sure to clean the wheel housings on each ribbon change.
Remove chips from the machine regularly, thoroughly clean the machine every 100 hours of operation. Remember the cutting fluid tank.
9.      Change the backup battery in your PLC every five years to prevent loss of data.
10. The switch must be in the on position when changing the battery.
11. Use a quality cutting fluid, it offers a very high protection and good corrosion control and rancidity, it helps to keep the ribbons and work surfaces clean.
